Team Introduction

Team Leader: Huang Zhifeng

Team members: Niu Jianlou, Song Lintao, Zhou Jie, Wang Dezhong, Sun Jian

Our team is led by Huang Zhifeng as the academic leader, with a total of 13 core members. The team members are young, lively, full of vitality and creativity. Our team has been conducting innovative research on the growth factor signaling transduction mechanism and its new applications in metabolic diseases for a long time. In response to the common problems and key bottlenecks of FGFs as difficult-to-use drugs, we have explored from the perspective of molecular interaction and recognition patterns, and made the following progress: 1) Discovering the dimerization of FGF receptors and their "switch" function, which laid the foundation for creating a quantitative model of "metabolic threshold", and provided the feasibility of designing new FGF variant drugs by splitting ‘proliferation and metabolic regulation’; 2) Discovering FGFR1c plays an important role in regulating glucose/lipid metabolism and improving the complications of diabetes, which provides a theoretical basis for the development of FGF agonists selectively targeting FGFR1c; 3) Improving FGF analogues to enhance their drugability, in which we obtained two clinical approvals for new drugs. The research results have enriched the theoretical system of growth factor drugs and have been applied to the practice of new drug development for metabolic diseases.

Team PI Introduction

1Song Lintao, Ph.D., Associate Researcher, is a young outstanding talent selected for the Leading Talent Training Program in Zhejiang Province's universities. Focusing on the regulation of glucose and lipid homeostasis by endogenous metabolic factors, and using large-sample clinical analyses, it aims to delineate specific molecular networks and downstream targets involved in growth factor-mediated metabolic regulation. To data, the researcher has published more than ten publications as the first (including co-first) author or corresponding author in well-known journals, including Nature Communications (2020, 2018), Hepatology (2022, 2018), Kidney International (2018). This investigator presided two projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, a General Project by the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, and two projects by the Zhejiang Provincial Natural Science Foundation. Additionally, they contribute significantly as a core member to a key project and a major project under the National Natural Science Foundation of China.

2Niu Jianlou, PhD, Visiting Scholar/Postdoctoral Fellow at New York University Medical Center, Associate Professor, Doctoral Supervisor/Postdoctoral Collaborating Supervisor, selected for the 4th Wenzhou Medical University "Campus Excellent Youth Training Project" and Secretary of the Department of Biopharmaceuticals. Long-term focusing on the structure and function research of protein drugs, and carrying out structural modification of protein drugs based on their structure to promote their clinical translation. Having published more than ten SCI papers as first author or corresponding author in international authoritative journals such as PNAS and EBiomedicine. Hosted two National Natural Science Foundation projects and two Zhejiang Provincial Natural Science Foundation projects.

3Zhou Jie, PhD, Associate Professor. Mainly engaged in research on metabolic disease mechanisms and drug modification. Director of the Biopharmaceutical Teaching and Research Office. She has published 12 research papers as the first (including co-first) author or corresponding author in well-known journals such as ACS Appl. Mater. InterfacesEuro J Med ChemNanoscaleBioorganic ChemistryJ Invest DermatolFrontiers in Pharmacology. She has presented one National Natural Science Foundation project, one Provincial Natural Science Foundation project, and one Municipal Fund project and participated as a core member in one national major new drug development project and two National Natural Science Foundation projects.

4Wang Dezhong, PhD, lecturer. Focusing on the molecular mechanism of tissue damage caused by various acute and chronic factors, such as metabolic syndrome and drugs; And exploring the key roles and pharmacological intervention mechanisms of FGFs in it. Having published multiple research papers as the first author in journals such as Signal Transmission and Targeted Therapy, Cell Death & DiseaseBiomedicine & Pharmacotherapy and Frontiers in Pharmacy.  Having successively presided over one National Natural Science Foundation Youth Fund project and one Zhejiang Provincial Natural Science Foundation project.

5Sun Jian, PhD, lecturer. He graduated with a master's degree from China Pharmaceutical University and a doctoral degree from Wenzhou Medical University. Since his work, he has mainly carried out innovative research on the structural transformation of fibroblast growth factor FGF, wound repair and diabetes. Published multiple research papers as the first author or corresponding author in well-known SCI journals such as J Invest Dermatol, ACS Appl Material Interface, Nanoscale, BMC Chemistry, etc; He has presided over one project each from the Zhejiang Provincial Natural Science Foundation and one project each from the Wenzhou Municipal Natural Science Foundation. As a key member, he participated in one project each from the National Natural Science Regional Innovation and Development Joint Key Project and one project each from the National Natural Science Youth Fund.

Recruitment Needs

Our group recruits postdoctoral fellows and associate researchers all year round.

Applicants should have obtained a Ph.D. degree from a well-known university at home and abroad, and major in pharmacology, microbiology and biochemical pharmacy, bioengineering, structural biology or biomaterials. Experience in metabolic disease research is preferred.

We will provide extremely generous treatment (such as no less than RMB 900,000 yuan for two years as a postdoctoral fellow), and provide broad development opportunities and space.

Those who meet the recruitment requirements and are interested in providing a resume (the recommendation letter can be added later). Materials should be sent to: hzf@wmu.edu.cn; Please indicate the subject of the email "Position applied for + name". Candidates' application materials will be kept strictly confidential, and interviews will be arranged for those who pass the preliminary examination.
