Personal Profile

He graduated from East China University of Science and Technology in 1996 with a Ph.D. He worked at East China University of Science and Technology from 1992 to May 2019 as assistant professor, lecturer, associate professor, professor, and doctoral supervisor, and served as a member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of the East China University of Science and Technology and vice president from July 2015 to May 2019, and has been the deputy secretary of the Party Committee and president of Shanghai University since June 2019. In 1996, he was selected as one of the Shanghai Science and Technology Star, in 2000, he was selected as one of the Excellent Talents of the Ministry of Education, in 2004, he received the National Outstanding Youth Science Foundation, in 2006, he was selected as one of the national candidates of the “New Century Project of One Hundred and Ten Million Talents”, in 2007 he was awarded the Shanghai Science and Technology Elites, and in 2010 he was awarded the National Outstanding Scientific and Technological Worker. In 2012, he was appointed as the Chief Scientist of the National Major Scientific Research Program. In November 2017, he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is a Fellow of the International Federation of Biomaterials Societies and a Fellow of the American Academy of Medical and Biological Engineering.

Research Direction
He has been engaged in basic and applied research on biomaterials for a long time, and has developed a variety of active bone repair materials, as well as new technologies of growth factor preparation and material activation; the self-curing calcium phosphate artificial bone he developed has been granted product registration certificate and has been widely used in clinical applications. With academic background in materials, biology and chemical engineering, he is mainly engaged in the research of biomaterials, including tissue repair and regeneration materials, nano-biomaterials, injectable biomaterials, and controlled release of drugs/bioactive factors.
Participate Project
He has successively undertaken national major scientific research projects, key and surface projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, “863” projects, the Ministry of Education's higher education discipline innovation and intellectual program and the Ministry of Education's innovative team projects, etc. He is the chief scientist of the national major scientific research projects.
Representative Works
The scientific research results have been published in more than 250 papers in domestic and international journals, including more than 160 SCI-recorded papers. He has applied for 50 invention patents, and has been authorized 33 invention patents, including 3 patents authorized by the United States. He has won 7 national and provincial awards, including the Second Prize of National Scientific and Technological Progress in 2003 (first accomplisher) and the Second Prize of National Natural Science Award in 2014 (first accomplisher).
Personal Honor
In 2003, the project “Development and Application of Self-curing Calcium Phosphate Artificial Bone” won the “Second Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award”.
In 2004, he was awarded the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund.
In 2010, he was honored as “National Outstanding Science and Technology Worker”.
In 2014, “Research on Transformation Mechanism and Biological Properties of Calcium and Phosphorus-Based Biomaterials” was honored with the “Second Prize of National Natural Science Award”.
In 2015, he was awarded the title of “2010-2014 Shanghai Advanced Worker”, and on May 26, 2023, he was awarded the third “National Certificate of Innovation and Striving for Pioneering”.
