1996年毕业于华东理工大学并获博士学位。1992年-2019年5月在华东理工大学工作,历任助教、讲师、副教授、教授、博士生导师,2015年7月-2019年5月任华东理工大学党委常委、副校长,2019年6月至今任上海大学党委副书记、校长。1996年入选上海市科技启明星,2000年入选教育部跨世纪优秀人才,2004年获得国家杰出青年科学基金,2006年入选“新世纪百千万人才工程”国家级人选,2007年获上海市科技精英,2010年获全国优秀科技工作者。2012年承担国家重大科学研究计划项目任首席科学家。国家自然科学基金委创新群体学术带头人。2017年11月当选中国科学院院士。国际生物材料学会联合会会士,美国医学与生物工程院会士。
长期从事生物材料的基础与应用研究,发展了多种活性骨修复材料以及生长因子制备和材料活化新技术;所研制的自固化磷酸钙人工骨获产品注册证并已在临床上获得广泛应用。兼具材料、生物和化工的学术背景,主要从事生物材料的研究,包括组织修复与再生材料、纳米生物材料、可注射生物材料、药物/生物活性因子控释等。
先后承担国家重大科学研究计划项目、国家自然科学基金重点及面上项目、“863”项目、教育部高等学校学科创新引智计划和教育部创新团队项目等,国家重大科学研究计划项目首席科学家等。
科研成果在国内外杂志发表论文250余篇,其中SCI收录论文160余篇。申请发明专利50项,已获授权发明专利33项,包括美国授权专利3项。先后获得2003年度国家科技进步二等奖(第一完成人)、2014年度国家自然科学奖二等奖(第一完成人)等国家及省部级奖励7项。
