Guide to the “Ecology and Evolution of Infectious Diseases (EEID)” International Academic Symposium in the UK in 2024
The National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) collaborates with the National Science Foundation (NSF) of the United States, the UK Research and Innovation Agency (UKRI), and the Binational Science Foundation (BSF) of Israel to jointly solicit cooperative research and exchange projects in the field of “Ecology and Evolution of Infectious Diseases (EEID)” every year. In May 2024, NSFC will jointly organize an academic conference in the UK with NSF, UKRI, and BSF, and will fund researchers interested in the field of EEID to participate in the conference, laying a foundation for establishing bilateral/multilateral cooperative relationships and subsequent substantive cooperative research.
1.Project Description
·Project Type: This project is for attending bilateral/multilateral academic conferences abroad.
·Funding Areas and Application Codes: The EEID project supports interdisciplinary research on the ecological, evolutionary, organismal, and social laws and processes that affect the dynamics of infectious disease transmission. It requires quantitative, mathematical or computational analysis of pathogen transmission dynamics as the main theme, establishing and testing mathematical or computational models that can fully describe infectious disease systems, discovering laws of infectious disease transmission. This research focuses on the determinants and interrelationships of infectious disease transmission among hosts (including but not limited to humans, non-human animals, and/or plants), such as: pathogen transmission; impact of environmental factors such as climate; population dynamics and genetics of natural hosts; how the physiology or behavior of pathogen, vector or host species biology affects transmission dynamics; feedback between ecological transmission and evolutionary dynamics; cultural, social, behavioral and economic factors of pathogen transmission, etc., and encourages researchers to study disease systems that are of public health concern in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), as well as disease systems of concern in the agricultural sector. For a detailed description of the funding areas for the EEID project in English, please see the attachment.
·Funding Scale: The funding scale for this overseas conference project is about 12 items.
·Funding Intensity: The funding intensity is no more than 30,000 yuan/item, which includes expenses required for attending international conferences such as passport visa processing fees, international travel expenses (economy class), food and lodging, and local transportation expenses. The conference organizer UKRI will issue an invitation letter to the funded participants for applying for a UK visa.
·Application Requirements:
1. The academic conference will be held in London, UK from May 21-22, 2024. Please fill in the start and end dates of cooperation in the application form from May 15 to December 31, 2024.
2. This project only funds individuals. Please do not include participants in your application form or fill in foreign collaborators.
2. Application Conditions
·Applicants should be project leaders who have completed a national natural science fund project with a duration of 3 years or more after December 31, 2024 (excluding cooperative exchange projects).
·Applicants should clarify their research foundation and direction in connection with EEID research content in their project application.
·Applicants should demonstrate their ability to carry out international exchange cooperation in their project application form.
3. Application Notes
·1.Applicants must log into the Science Fund Network Information System (http://grants.nsfc.gov.cn/), write an “Application Form for International (Regional) Cooperation and Exchange Projects” according to the writing outline and related requirements. This project adopts paperless application.
·The online application acceptance period for the Science Fund Network Information System is from October 8 to December 11, 2023 Beijing time.
