Two  Principal Investigators Winning the International Scientific and Technological Cooperation Award of Zhejiang

The result of the 2022 Science and Technology Awards (STA) was issued at the the Science and Technology (ST) Innovation Conference of Zhejiang Province on November 12, 2023. Two senior principal investigators (PIs) of Oujiang Lab, Prof. Moosa Mohammadi and Prof. Masao Doi, were granted the award.

STA is specially established for non-Chinese people or organizations that have brilliant contributions to the science and technology innovation of Zhejiang Province. It is the highest award in Zhejiang Province for non-Chinese scientists.

Moosa Mohammadi, Iranian. He is internationally-recognized as one of the most authoritative experts in the field of fibroblast growth factor (FGF) structure, signaling and function. Once served as a tenured professor at New York University and Chief Scientist of the Center for Protein Structure, he joined Oujiang Lab as a full-time PI/Director of Cell Growth Factor Institute in 2022.

In the past thirty years, Professor Mohammadi has successfully worked out the structures of nearly two-thirds of the 22 FGF family members and obtained the structures of related protein and receptor complexes, making outstanding contributions to the development of international FGF and structural biology. Up to now, he has published over 150 high-level papers in top journals as the first author or corresponding author, including 3 papers in  Nature, 3 in Cell, 1 in Science.

Masao Doi

Masao Doi, Japanese. member of the National Academy of Engineering (USA), a world-leading scientist on rheology of polymeric liquids, soft matter physics, and polymer physics. In 2019, he won the Polymer Physics Group Founders’ Prize of the Institute of Physics(UK). He has won multiple famous academic titles, including the Honorary Member of the Institute of Physics(UK), the Polymer Physics Prize of the American Physical Society, and the Award of the Society of Polymer Sciences.

Prof. Doi has established a continuum model that describes the dynamics of fluid-elastic coupling, which is applicable to all natural and synthetic soft matter materials. From 1978 to 1979, Prof. Doi published four papers as the first author, which was famously-known as the Doi-Edwards Theory, and has become a landmark achievement in polymer science. In 2022, he joined Oujiang Lab as a senior PI, and has been contributing to the science development of Oujiang Lab and Wenzhou City.
